Surrogacy
The right to become a surrogate mother is granted to women aged 20-35 who have previously given birth at least once and have undergone a medical genetic examination in accordance with established procedures, with no contraindications found.
A woman in a legally registered marriage in the Republic of Armenia may become a surrogate mother with the consent of her husband.
Foreign citizens or stateless persons may also become surrogate mothers or use surrogacy services.
The individual (or couple) utilizing assisted reproductive technologies and who has signed a contract with the surrogate mother is responsible for all expenses related to the pregnancy, childbirth, and any complications, as confirmed by medical documents.
The surrogate mother is not the biological parent of the child.
Individuals wishing to become donors or surrogate mothers can apply to the relevant healthcare institutions.
Women of reproductive age, starting from 20, who have previously given birth and are willing to carry a pregnancy with an embryo for relatives, may also have the right to be a surrogate mother. In this case, the woman must undergo a mandatory medical genetic examination to ensure there are no contraindications to becoming a surrogate.
A woman cannot act as a surrogate mother if:
There is any confirmed medical contraindication, or
She has previously been a surrogate mother at least twice.
A surrogate mother may receive monetary compensation for carrying the pregnancy and giving birth, as specified in the contract previously signed.
