Violence against women in Armenia

Violence against women remains a serious and often silenced issue in Armenia. It can happen in the family, at work, in public spaces, or online.
According to statistics, dozens of women become victims of domestic violence each year, while many others live under long-term psychological, sexual, or economic abuse—often without knowing their rights or how to seek help.

Domestic violence

According to the RA Law on the Prevention of Domestic Violence, Protection of Persons Subjected to Domestic Violence and Restoration of Solidarity in the Family, domestic violence is a legally defined act of violence of a physical, sexual, psychological or economic nature, as well as neglect, committed between family members.

Sexual assault

Sexual harassment is any unwelcome behavior of a sexual nature that is offensive, humiliating, or intimidating to an individual. It includes sexual advances, as well as verbal, nonverbal, or physical actions of a sexual nature, occurring in the workplace, educational institutions, or other environments.

Discrimination

Discrimination is the unequal treatment of individuals in similar situations without any objective justification or reasonable explanation. It can manifest in various forms, such as discrimination based on gender, race, skin color, language, religion, political or other beliefs, or membership in a national minority, among others.

Cyber violence and revenge porn

Cybercrime is defined as any criminal activity that is committed using or against computer systems, networks, or digital media. While cybercrime can target anyone, women and girls are often at a higher risk of becoming victims.
