Cyber violence and revenge porn

What is cybercrime?

Cybercrime refers to criminal activities that involve computer systems, networks, or digital media, as well as crimes committed against these systems. While anyone can be targeted by cybercrimes, women and girls are often at a higher risk.

Cybercrimes can be categorized into three main groups based on the nature of the offense:

  • Financial Cybercrimes – crimes like theft using computer equipment.

  • Crimes Against Computer Information Security – hacking attacks, illegal access to user accounts on social media platforms, etc.

  • Other Cybercrimes – including the production and distribution of child pornography, violation of copyright laws, illegal collection or dissemination of personal and family information, and the release of confidential information.

The Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia establishes legal liability for crimes committed using computer systems.

For example, using information or communication technology, if a person over 18 years of age proposes a meeting with someone under 16 years old and arranges the meeting for the purpose of sexual intercourse, other sexual acts, or creating child pornography, it is considered a criminal offense.

If you believe you have become a victim of cybercrime, contact the nearest police station immediately. Be sure to preserve all evidence related to the crime, such as phone numbers, system logs, messages, or audio recordings.
